After a rewarding 19-year career as a special education preschool teacher, Wendy Haller is thrilled to be living her dream as an author. Her novels are heartfelt escapes: emotionally rich, coming-of-age tales that are raw, real, and relatable.
I recently had the opportunity to chat with Wendy about her series that focuses on three estranged sisters—who navigate family trauma, marriage struggles, and healing.
The Flannigan Girls is the first in the series.
Three sisters. One unbreakable bond. The Flannigan girls were once inseparable—three sisters bound together by love in a home that had very little of it to give. But time, distance, and the quiet weight of the past have pulled them apart.
Recently, Wendy released Regret No More the second in the series. It is a moving story of forgiveness, generational healing, and the complicated love between mothers and daughters. As long-buried truths rise to the surface, two women must decide if their bond can be repaired—or if some wounds are too deep to heal.
Initially, Wendy did not set out to write The Flannigan Girls as a series. Almost halfway through the first novel, one of Wendy’s characters kept clamoring for her story to be told. The story was so rich it would require Wendy to dedicate a separate novel to adequately share Becca’s story. Naturally, the last sister Laney, would beg Wendy to capture her story in a third novel.
Throughout the months of August and September, Wendy will research and develop the characters for the third novel, with a projected 2027 release date. The beauty of this series is that you do not need to read the novels in any specific order. However, this interviewer thinks you will definitely want to read all three!
One thing Wendy enjoys most is connecting with her readers at book clubs, book fairs, and bookstores. She especially loves when readers talk with her about her characters as if they are old friends and family. On more than one occasion, a teary-eyed reader has come up to Wendy and shared how much her books have helped to heal their own relationships.
During her Regret No More book launch event, Wendy offered some advice to her audience. She smiled and said, “Do the things that bring you joy.”
When asked, “What are the things that bring you joy? Wendy said she enjoyed being in nature, flowing through yoga, cozying up on the couch with a cup of tea and a good book, and her two cats vying for lap space.
Wendy, whom I met through the Women’s Fiction Writers Association (WFWA) credits this organization for its wonderful resources and workshops. In particular, she is grateful for the Writing Dates where its members share camaraderie, accountability, and expertise seven days a week via Zoom.
