Adventures of a Maybe Human

New Release from Debut Author Michele Montgomery

In this week’s post I’d like to highlight the debut novel Adventures of a Maybe Human written by author Michele Montgomery. I met Michele last year via Zoom on Writing Dates sponsored by the Women’s Fiction Writers Association (WFWA) where Michele is a moderator. During Writing Dates, members of WFWA come together to write independently for ninety minutes. It’s an opportunity to meet with fellow writers, hold each other accountable, and share camaraderie and information. Michele started Writing Dates during COVID, but the group soon realized how invaluable the meetings were and have continued to meet seven days a week as well as offering multiple daily time slots to accommodate its members all across the country.

About Adventures of a Maybe Human

Tomorrow, six-year-old Patrice will meet an unexpected death, and a non-human Crossing Guard will escort her to the afterlife. Or that’s the plan until her father, Keyvon, finds out.

An architect who trusts that all humanity is interconnected, he’s determined to save her. His faith gets pummeled when no one will help. Then he meets Charlene, a heart transplant recipient eager to pay kindness forward.

But her anti-rejection drugs muddle her brain, and she helps the wrong mission, jeopardizing her own survival. In one short day, the flawed connections between these humans may save—or kill—them all.

Adventures of a Maybe Human explores the interconnectedness of humanity-through twists you won’t see coming.

This is a story that makes you think long after you put the book down. None of us has any way of knowing the exact process of how we enter the afterlife. However, through her fictitious characters, the Crossing Guard and Kevyon, the author makes us think about our influence on others not only while we’re alive but while we’re no longer present on earth. And just when we think we have it all figured out, the author surprises us. Montgomery leaves the reader feeling encouraged and empowered to do good because how we act towards others does make a difference.  Shellie
